Resonance Lounge

Fair pricing.
Across the whole world.

Eight euros are a coffee and a slice of cake in Munich. For the person in the middle of India's incomes, they are about four days of everything they live on. So what Resonance Lounge costs depends on where you live, and the less you can spare, the more that matters. This page shows how we arrive at every price, the research behind it, and every price we charge today. We try hard to make it fair. It is also a genuinely hard problem, and this is our current best attempt rather than the final word.

Version 1, 7 October 2026 227 countries and territories One price on every store

Why

Free to enjoy, carried by those who can.

The heart of Resonance Lounge costs nothing: your identities, your people, your circles, meeting up, talking. That part stays free, because a place for finding your people stops being one the moment only some people can afford to be there.

It still has to be paid for. Servers, video calls, transcription and the people who build it cost money every month. So there are three ways to carry it, Supporter, Generous Supporter and Premium Supporter. They are contributions more than products: a paid tier says how much you want to give, and what it unlocks are the things that cost us money per person.

And here is the problem. A price that is a small, easy contribution in Germany is a week of groceries somewhere else. If one price applied everywhere, the people who need a place like this the most would be the ones priced out of carrying it. We think that is wrong, so we set prices for where people live.

Inequality is a massive problem, and I don't mind sending a clear message on that.

Jashan Chittesh, founder, in our design notes

Three rules

What every price has to satisfy.

Everything else on this page is how we keep these three.

One

One price, wherever you pay

The same plan costs the same on the App Store, on Google Play and on our website. Where a store bills in a currency of its own, the price in euros is converted at the day's exchange rate, so there is no reason to go looking for a cheaper door.

Two

Measured, not guessed

Every country's price comes from research on what people there actually have to spend, from several independent sources, each weighted by how far we trust it. The data and the method are public, below and in our repository.

Three

The effect shrinks as you give more

Where you live matters most for the smallest contribution and least for the largest. Supporter carries the full difference between countries, Generous Supporter a good part of it, Premium Supporter none at all.

Why the tiers differ

Money means less the more of it you have.

The less someone earns, the more of it goes on things they cannot skip. In Nigeria, food alone takes more than half of what households spend; in the United States it takes less than a tenth. Inside Germany, households with less than 1,300 euros a month spend 64 % of it on food and housing, those with 5,000 euros or more 47 %.

Between countries, the gap is widest at the bottom and narrowest at the top. The poorer half of people in India, at market exchange rates, has about 4 % of what the poorer half in France has. The richest tenth in Brazil, Mexico or Türkiye has a third or more of what the richest tenth in France has. A price set for the middle of a country fits its top less and less as the tier rises.

So Supporter, the tier most people consider first, follows the country fully. Generous Supporter follows it at 64 %, and Premium Supporter is the same price in euros everywhere, converted to the local currency. Premium is for the people who can and want to give a lot, and in most countries they live much closer to German prices than their neighbours do.

The research

What people actually have to spend.

One number per country: the median income, at market exchange rates, as a share of Germany's. The median is the person in the middle, which a country's average is not, and market rates are what a price is paid in.

Why not simply what things cost

A country's price level says how much a typical basket costs there. It does not say whether people can afford the basket. India's prices are about a quarter of Germany's, but its median income at market rates is about 3 % of Germany's. Price levels alone would charge people in India about ten times more of their income than people in Germany.

So we measure income, and the price level enters where it belongs: converting an income measured in purchasing power into what people actually hold at market rates.

Several sources, weighted

Each estimate counts in proportion to how far we trust it, and they are averaged on a logarithmic scale, so a source cannot pull a country far just by being extreme.

SourceWeight
Eurostat, median net income (EU, EFTA, candidates), 20253
OECD income distribution database, median disposable income2
World Bank poverty and inequality platform, median, times its household price level1.5
The same median times Numbeo's cost-of-living index, an independent price check0.5

A median the World Bank had to model without a survey counts a quarter as much.

Where the sources disagree

Official price levels from the World Bank, Eurostat and the OECD agree to within a percent or two in Europe, because they come from one shared measurement. Numbeo, collected from its visitors, reads lower for rich countries and higher for emerging ones, so it gets a small weight as an outside check.

Where a figure was wrong rather than different, we fixed or dropped it and kept a note: Bulgaria's exchange rate in the wrong currency, Croatia's in kuna, values for Liberia and Zimbabwe built on mismatched currencies, and Iran's on an official exchange rate that is not the one people pay.

Where there is no data

Some places have no survey at all. Liechtenstein is priced as Switzerland, Monaco as France, the French overseas departments as France, Greenland and the Faroe Islands as Denmark, and so on, each with the country it belongs to or sits inside. Anywhere not in our table falls into the middle band.

Many lower-income countries measure consumption rather than income, which reads lower. Those countries mostly sit at our floor anyway, where it makes no difference.

What the app stores do, and why we did not use it

Both stores offer to work out prices for other countries from one price you enter. Apple's documentation describes its conversion as exchange rates, certain taxes and local pricing conventions. Google Play's conversion uses the exchange rate of the day, taxes and "pricing patterns", and treats the price you enter as excluding VAT, then adds the local VAT on top. Neither looks at what people there earn.

We looked at both closely, because that would have been the easy road. Take our German Supporter price of 8 euros to Poland: the two stores land 13 zloty apart, and both land far above what a fair Polish price is.

What others do

Music streaming

Spotify and Apple Music

Both price by country: roughly half the German price in Poland and Hungary, a third in Brazil, a tenth in India and Nigeria, and usually the same as each other. A single tier for everyone, so they sit between our Supporter and Premium curves.

Games

Steam

Valve recommends regional prices built on purchasing power and entertainment spending, and says exchange rates alone "vastly oversimplify" the differences. In 2022 that meant about half the US price in India, Brazil, Indonesia and South Africa.

Business software

Microsoft 365

One euro price across the European Union, with Romania paying what Germany pays, and lower prices only in a few large lower-income markets, India at about 28 % of the US price. A useful reference for our company plans.

Ten bands

From 59 cents to 15 euros.

Every country lands in one of ten bands by the Supporter price its income points to. Bands keep the table readable and the stores' catalogues manageable; a country near a band's edge goes to the nearer one.

Band 7 holds Germany, the reference. The bar grows with the logarithm of the price, so each step up the ladder looks like a similar step in how much people can spend.

Companies

Paid by the size of the team.

Why team size, and not revenue

Our early plans priced companies by annual revenue. Before launch we changed to the number of people, for four reasons. What we pay grows with active people, not with revenue. People can be counted, while revenue is self-declared and proving it would be a sales conversation nobody enjoys. A team that grows simply moves up, without anyone filling in a form. And what a company buys is what it uses: the people who appear as the company.

Plans for the size teams actually are

A plan is one flat monthly price for a team of a size: Starting Up for about 4 people, Small Team for 8, Medium Team for 12, Large Team for 25, Several Teams for 50, then Growing for 100, Department for 250, Division for 500 and Organisation for 1,000, and Enterprise beyond that, by conversation. In Germany, Starting Up costs 29 euros a month, about 7 euros a person, and Organisation about 2.50 euros a person. A company plan starts at four people on purpose: a smaller team can take Starting Up, and usually does just as well with its members' own plans.

Room to grow, before anything changes

Small companies have better things to do than manage a subscription. So a plan for 4 takes a fifth and a sixth person with one friendly message and nothing else; at seven, we remind the account once a week that the next plan fits better. To add the 8th person, you need the plan for 8 people. Plans for 8 and 12 work the same way with a little more room. From 25 people up, a plan takes five more without a word, then reminds once a week, then once a day, and the next plan is needed 21 people past its size.

Where the country matters, and where it stops

A micro company (under 10 people) in Bulgaria or Romania produces about a third of what one in Germany does per person, a small one (10 to 49) about half, while large companies there produce over 40 % of the German figure. For small teams, a German price is a real burden; for a company of 350 it is a rounding error, 0.04 to 0.14 % of what it produces, in every EU country we checked.

So the plans for small teams follow the country

Starting Up and Small Team, the micro companies, follow a country at 64 %, like Generous Supporter, because their output follows local wages closely; companies also deduct the cost and reclaim VAT, which is why it is not the full effect. Medium Team and Large Team, the small companies, follow at 32 %. From Several Teams (50 people) upward, the price is the same in euros everywhere, converted to the local currency, the way Microsoft prices its business plans across Europe. That has a visible consequence in the lowest bands: there, a person in a team of 50 pays more than one in a team of 25. We accept it, because at that size the price is a small share of what a company produces, wherever it is. One rule keeps the step from 8 to 12 people fair: the plan for 12 always costs between the plans for 8 and for 25 per person.

From a number to a price

Nine steps, in order.

The whole calculation is a short program in our repository, run once per price version.

  1. The factor

Each country's median income at market rates, relative to Germany, from the weighted sources above.

  2. The band

Eight euros times the factor gives a Supporter price, and the country goes to the nearest of the ten bands.

  3. The tiers

Generous Supporter is 32 euros times the band's factor to the power 0.64, Premium Supporter 128 euros everywhere. Company plans for up to 8 people follow at 64 %, for 12 and 25 at 32 %.

  4. The floor

Nothing costs less than 59 cents a month: the lowest amount our card processor accepts is 50 cents, and Apple's next price above it is 59.

  5. The yearly plans

Twelve months minus 17 %, about two months free, for paying once a year.

  6. The currency

Where a store bills in a local currency, the euro price is converted at the European Central Bank's rate of the day we set the prices.

  7. The price grid

Apple only accepts prices from a fixed list, so each price moves to the nearest point at or below it. We round down, not up, and prefer a whole number within 5 %.

  8. The ceilings

Google Play accepts no more than 940 euros for one billing period. So Premium Supporter yearly is 939 euros everywhere it is paid in euros, and the same limit applies in other currencies.

  9. The numbers we skip

A few prices are left out on purpose. Some numbers have been misused as codes: 88 and 18 for the darkest chapter of German history, 14.88 by white supremacists in North America and beyond. As a company from Germany we would rather not echo any of them, even by accident. The 8 itself is a beautiful number, and 888 a lucky one in many cultures, so a price like 888 or 8.88 stays; we only step around the codes that misuse it. Where a price would land on one of them, we take the next lower price instead.

Our own side

We thought about this for ourselves, too.

The team behind Resonance Lounge lives in several countries, and we considered paying ourselves by the same kind of cost-of-living data. We decided against it: making that objectively fair turned out to be far more complex than the problem it solved, for a team small enough to talk it through.

Instead, we agree openly on what each of us actually needs to live, and set one shared base that covers the most expensive of us. Everyone gets at least that, wherever they live, and time worked below it counts as an investment in the company, equal for equal time. Our Ethics page says more about how we work.

What happens next

A first draft, on purpose.

We will adjust

These prices come from research, not from experience. After about three months of real subscriptions we will look at what people in each country actually chose, and adjust; later, about once a year. Every change becomes a new version at the top of the price list below, and the earlier versions stay, so the whole history can be read.

Tell us where we are wrong

You know your country better than any dataset does. If a price looks wrong for where you live, too high or too low, tell us. What members tell us weighs as much as the numbers.

We trust you with your country

We do not ask for an ID to show you the price for where you live. If our signals strongly suggest someone pays through another country than the one they live in, we ask, kindly, whether they want to switch; we assume no bad intent and charge nothing automatically. Members with a verified ID are exempt: their verified country counts.

Where you can subscribe today

The App Store and Google Play currently sell our plans in Europe (including UK), the United States, Canada and Thailand, with more countries to follow, and their prices are listed one by one below. Every other country pays its band's price in euros on our website.

Every price

The current version, and every earlier one.

A new version goes on top; earlier ones stay below it, unchanged. Prices are per month or per year, including VAT where the store or the law adds it.

Why this page looks different.

Our Ethics, Terms, Privacy and Contact pages are plain text, as such pages tend to be. This one is not, deliberately.

We know that pricing research is a dry and complicated subject. We also think it is one of the most important things we publish: it decides who can carry this place and who cannot. So we would rather make it worth reading than make it easy to skip. If you made it all the way down here, thank you.
